Dr. Allen
Dr. Allen is a 1989 honor graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. He was selected for a combined medical/ surgical internship at Texas A&M University in 1990. He then completed an extensive residency training program in small animal surgery at the University of Minnesota from 1990 to 1993.
While at the University of Minnesota he received distinguished teaching awards and presented research nationally. After his residency, Dr. Allen spent time in private practice in Minneapolis before returning to Missouri in 1994. Since then he has provided advanced small animal surgery in multi-specialty referral practices in the St. Louis area until forming his own mobile practice in 2010.
In addition to 30+ years of experience practicing orthopedics, oncologic, thoracoabdominal and neurosurgery, Dr. Allen has advanced training in radiology and anesthesiology/pain management. He has received certification to perform TPLO, Arthroscopy, Total Hip Replacement, ASIF bone-plating, external fixation, CRIF and BOP fracture repair techniques. He has performed over 3,000 TPLO procedures for cruciate ligament repair and has found this technique to be superior to other treatment options. He is the inventor of an orthopedic retractor used specifically for anterior cruciate ligament repair to allow better visualization and treatment of the knee joint.
Dr. Allen has given numerous professional presentations and lectures on subjects ranging from laryngeal paralysis, urinary disorders, bone cancer and stifle disease to pain management, hip dysplasia and acupuncture. He is a seasoned member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Orthopedic Society, International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management, Greater St. Louis Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Information Network and the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association.
During his time at the University of Missouri Vet School, he received the Davis Scholarship for Proficiency in Medicine, National Collegiate Veterinary Medicine Award, Pfizer Leadership Award and graduated cum laude. Other honors included Phi Zeta and Phi Kappa Phi honor society induction, Who’s Who among students and Rhodes Scholarship.
Dr. Allen is native to Houston, TX and Neosho, MO. He enjoys racquetball, golf, skiing, fishing and time outdoors. He shares his home with his wife Patty, his son Luke, his daughter Hope, and an orthopedically challenged rescue Pug, Rosie.
